It's never too late to be what you might have been.
Confidence – what is it?
How can you boost your confidence?
Have you ever seen a truly confident person? They stand with their heads held high and their shoulders back. They just exude an air of self-assurance. Is it their clothes? Is it their jewellery or their haircut? How did they get all that self-esteem?
They got it from doing things well. They learnt that if they did something well, there was a sense of accomplishment. So they tried the next thing – that was a little harder. And they succeeded in that task, and guess what happened – they gained a little more confidence.
So what is confidence really?
Confidence is that feeling of being comfortable in your own skin. You feel good about yourself. It is an attitude, a belief in yourself. It is an internal and intrinsic part of your personality. It becomes part of your make-up, what makes you as a person. It is the feeling that you can do anything.
Is there some way you can boost self-confidence without all that hard slog of doing things successfully? Perhaps you can get someone to tell you that you are wonderful – all the time.
Unfortunately, it does not work like that. There is no quick fix. You can’t say it like a mantra, and you can’t buy it – well, not for long. Wearing fine clothes and jewellery might make you feel better temporarily. However, they do not permanently boost your confidence. They might make you look confident – and give the desired façade. Real confidence has nothing to do with what you wear. It comes from within. That is why some people can wear a garbage bag and still exude confidence from every pore of their being. Those people have done the hard yards. They know real confidence comes from trying new things – and succeeding.
